We are pleased to announce that Providence has returned to the SD-1 Health & Welfare Trust!
When the Trust made the business decision in 2021 to replace Providence with Cigna, Providence—having served the Trust for decades—was determined to win us back. And they have, by making some significant changes. They have:
- Expanded the behavioral health care provider network to better meet our members’ needs.
- Improved pricing to help save the Trust and our members money.
- Committed to continuing their outstanding, local customer service.
WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOU
As of April 1, 2023, your medical plan benefits are administered through Providence, and your medical plan provider network is the Providence Portland Public Schools/School Dist. No. 1 Trust (PPS/SD-1 Trust) network which includes Legacy Health, OHSU, and Adventist Health.
- You did not need to make an enrollment change; your medical plan automatically switched to Providence on April 1.
- Your plan benefits, monthly contributions, and deductible did NOT change.
- Any amounts applied to your annual deductible or out-of-pocket maximum for medical plan services received during the current Plan Year through March 31 transferred to Providence.
- Your medical plan name changed:
- The Cigna In-Network Only Plan changed to the Providence In-Network Only Plan.
- The Cigna PPO Plan changed to the Providence PPO Plan.
Note: You will have an opportunity to change your plan selection during Open Enrollment in the fall or if you have a mid-year qualifying event.
- You should have received a new medical plan ID card to be used for all medical plan services received beginning April 1.
- Your prescription drug benefits (Express Scripts), dental benefits (Delta Dental), or vision benefits (VSP) did NOT change.
- You and your family can enjoy all that Providence has to offer without having to wait until the next Plan Year!
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
Use providers in the Providence PPS/SD-1 Trust network for the best benefit coverage:
- The In-Network Only Plan does NOT pay any benefits for services received from providers who are not in-network; you must begin using providers in the Providence PPS/SD-1 Trust network as of April 1.
- The PPO Plan charges higher rates for services received from providers who are not in- network. You will have lower costs if you use providers in the Providence PPS/SD-1 Trust network as of April 1.
- If you were undergoing a course of treatment prior to April 1 (for example, oncology, maternity, or dialysis), Providence should have contacted you directly to assist you with this transition. You may contact them at (503) 574-7247 or 800-662-1121 (TTY: 711), or by email at Care .Management@Providence.org for assistance.
Use your Providence medical plan ID card for any medical plan services you receive:
- You should have received your Providence medical plan ID card in your mail in March. If you have not received it, contact Providence Customer Service.
