Say No to the Holiday Bulge
Think a few extra pounds are inevitable during the holidays? Think again! Start the season with a few healthy practices and come January, losing weight won’t be on your list of resolutions.
Begin with healthy remakes of delicious holiday foods—watch for recipes all month long on the SDTrust Facebook page.
Next, follow these tried-and-true tips for sensible eating during the season of indulgence:
- Pay attention. Avoid eating without thinking. Stop snacking away while you watch holiday movies on TV or scroll social media. And just because there is a plate of cookies in the breakroom doesn’t mean you have to grab one every time you pass through.
- Control portions. You can eat everything you want…just don’t eat very much of anything. Use a small plate and take a taste of each dish, without loading it up like Mt. Everest.
- Only eat when you’re hungry. Don’t eat just because food is available or it’s time to eat. If you’re not hungry, wait for your body to tell you it’s time to refuel.
- Keep healthy snacks handy. Skip the potato chips for munchies that are good for you. Try apple slices with peanut butter, hummus and carrots, string cheese, popcorn or a handful of almonds.
- Slow down. Enjoy each bite. Put your fork down while chewing. Take a drink between each bite. Give your body time to realize it is satisfied before you are stuffed.

See a Doctor in About 10 Minutes
Virtual doctor visits—via online video chats, phone calls or secure e-mails--make it easy to get health care at almost any time of day, within minutes of your request.
Our Virtual Care Infographic shows you how easy it is to use.
The convenience of virtual visits is hard to beat. You don’t have to make an appointment in advance, drive to the doctor’s office, wait your turn to see the doctor, then drive home again, which can easily add up to 90 minutes or more. (You don’t even have to change out of your pajamas!)
