RESOLUTION NUMBER ONE: Get Preventive Care in 2022

Your most important New Year’s resolution may be to get preventive care in 2022, especially if you put off routine checkups during the pandemic. Recommended tests and screenings help you maintain your good health and catch serious issues early, when they are most effectively treated.

It’s easy to do. Just schedule an annual wellness exam (make sure that is what you request when scheduling), then talk with your doctor about the screenings that are right for you, based on your age, gender, and health history. All recommended preventive services are covered at 100%, when you choose an in-network provider.

Here are five screenings everyone should get done:

  1. Blood Pressure: All ages, every 1-2 years.
  2. Cholesterol: Starting at age 20, or earlier if at higher risk. Every 4-6 years for normal-risk adults; more often if any you have elevated risk for heart disease and stroke.
  3. Colorectal Cancer: Starting at age 45 through age 75 (in certain situations, it also may be advisable from ages 75 to 85).
  4. Diabetes: Starting at age 45, once every three years.
  5. Vision: All ages, every 1-2 years.

Women should also have regular screenings for breast cancer and cervical cancer. Men should talk with their doctor about screening for prostate cancer, starting at age 50.
